A new democratic era settles in Bandundu: the municipal councils take office

In early 2024, the city of Bandundu witnessed a significant milestone in the political and administrative structure of the Kwilu province with the establishment of permanent offices for the municipal councils. The electoral process that led to the selection of these council members was characterized by transparency and active citizen involvement, reflecting the vibrant local democracy in Bandundu.

The municipal offices, each consisting of four democratically elected members, signify the community’s desire to engage in the management of their municipalities by choosing capable and trustworthy representatives. Elections were held in various communes such as Mayoyo, Disasi, and Basoko, ensuring a balanced and representative selection of council members.

While Mayoyo and Basoko saw a unanimous selection of candidates, Disasi witnessed a competition for the vice-president position between Koto Michel and André Kiketi, with André Kiketi emerging victorious with four out of seven votes. This outcome underscored his legitimacy and capacity to advocate for his municipality’s interests effectively.

After the elections, the council members were formally installed by the provincial governor’s representative, marking the beginning of a new collaborative phase for these local elected officials. The newly formed municipal councils in Mayoyo, Disasi, and Basoko now have capable leaders like Fitila Ngayi Mardochée, Matungala Ngomba, and Degaul Kabaka Isoto as presidents, supported by vice-presidents, rapporteurs, and quaestors.

The establishment of the municipal council offices in Bandundu in 2024 represents a pivotal moment in the city’s political and democratic journey. It highlights the community’s proactive engagement in municipal governance by selecting competent and responsible representatives. This newfound democratic spirit showcases the commitment of Bandundu’s residents towards shaping a prosperous future for their community.
