Fatshimetrie recently reported that 209 households in Kananga, Kasai-Central province, received non-food aid from the UNHCR through the NGO Women Hand in Hand for Integral Development (FMMDI). The distribution ceremony, attended by the provincial governor John Kabeya, underscored the importance of solidarity towards these families affected by the recent torrential rains.
Each of the 209 households received a kit containing various essential non-food items to address their immediate needs. The aid package included blankets, buckets in different sizes, water cans, kitchen kits, and mats, selected to assist families in coping with the challenges resulting from the adverse weather conditions and damages.
Nathalie Kambala, the FMMDI coordinator, emphasized the significance of advocacy efforts with partners to secure this assistance and expressed gratitude to all involved parties. Jacques Dia Ngondu, the UNHCR Grand-Kasaï office head, expressed hope that these items would enhance the resilience of the recipient families, providing crucial support for their recovery process.
UNHCR’s support complements the aid initiatives provided by the Central Government through the National Solidarity and Humanitarian Disaster Management Fund, reflecting the solidarity and mutual assistance demonstrated in times of crisis. This collective effort highlights the strength of unity in combating adversity and strengthening community bonds.
The non-food assistance delivered by UNHCR and FMMDI to the affected households in Kananga serves as a profound gesture of solidarity and hope in challenging circumstances. It signifies the commitment to support the most vulnerable and offer tangible assistance in rebuilding their lives following the losses endured. The generosity and dedication of all parties involved in this endeavor emphasize the enduring value of humanity in our society’s fabric.
