Amid the drive for road infrastructure development in Nigeria, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, recently inspected road construction projects in the Abuja region. During his visit on March 27, 2024, he expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the work.
The road projects include a six-lane highway linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje Junction and a five-kilometre dual carriageway from Garage Junction to the Local Education Authority (LEA) headquarters in Kuje.
The minister highlighted that the five kilometer road from Garage Junction to LEA headquarters was proposed by the local council chairman and stakeholders in the area. He also mentioned that the contractor had already carried out earthworks covering 2.5 km, and the next steps would include laying the drainage channels.
The contractor has pledged to complete the road before the end of the year, drawing praise from officials. Furthermore, the six-lane highway from Airport Expressway to Kuje Junction is managed by Arab Contractors and the progress made is considered satisfactory in terms of quality of work.
According to Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, the road connecting the Airport Expressway to Kuje town will cover 11 km. However, the construction is facing challenges such as the presence of five towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) along the route, thereby delaying the work.
The cooperation and commitment of stakeholders as well as the will to achieve the set targets could enable the full realization of these critically important road construction projects in Abuja.
