“Historic press conference in Kinshasa: Diplomatic and security issues in Central Africa revealed”

Article: Press conference of the President of the DRC and the President of South Sudan in Kinshasa: Diplomatic and security issues in Central Africa

During a joint press conference in Kinshasa, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, and his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir, addressed crucial issues related to the security situation in eastern DRC and diplomatic relations with other countries in the region.

The recent tension between Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame was also a central point of this meeting. While hopes of reconciliation were born in Luanda, the recent declarations of the two Heads of State have reignited tensions and highlighted the deep differences between the two neighboring countries.

Félix Tshisekedi accused Paul Kagame of being a “disruptor” and of being involved in the ongoing unrest in the Kivu region. For the Congolese President, this is a problem of the regime and not of the people, stressing that the Rwandan people are not responsible for the actions taken by Kagame’s government.

For his part, Paul Kagame expressed his desire to overcome the conditions imposed by Kinshasa to begin discussions, warning against preconditions that could further complicate the situation. He also accused Félix Tshisekedi of manipulating leaders and countries, emphasizing the need to proceed in a pragmatic and constructive manner to achieve a peaceful resolution of disputes.

This press conference highlighted the major diplomatic and security issues affecting the Central African region, emphasizing the need for open and constructive dialogue between the different actors to guarantee stability and peace in the region.
