The annual International Women’s Day event was celebrated this year with a topical theme: “investing in women: accelerating the pace”. Experts highlight a major obstacle to achieving gender equality by 2030: the crucial lack of funding. In fact, more than 61% of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo live below the poverty line, according to specialists. This situation is often due to women’s weak control over their income, which often remains in the hands of men.
To remedy this inequality, many observers agree that promoting female entrepreneurship is essential. By encouraging women to take up entrepreneurship, they could not only create wealth for themselves but also contribute to their country’s economy.
Mrs. Malika Muckubu, entrepreneur and PCA of the National Tourism Office, was the guest of Okapi Service to discuss the importance of supporting women in the development of their business projects. Her testimony inspires many women to take the plunge and embark on an entrepreneurial adventure.
Investing in female entrepreneurship therefore appears to be a relevant solution to combat poverty and promote the financial autonomy of women. The road to gender equality undoubtedly involves better promotion of female entrepreneurship, thus allowing women to create their own economic success.
