“The fight against the waste of essential medicines: an imperative for health in Africa”

Wastage of essential medicines is a critical problem facing many regions, particularly in Africa. The recent meeting of the Central Supply of Essential Medicines for Southern Ecuador (CAMESE) highlighted this major concern.

The vice-president of CAMESE, Sister Victorine Bofili, highlighted during the general assembly in Mbandaka the issue of medicines expiring without having been used. This unfortunate situation is mainly caused by delays in the delivery of medicines and logistical problems in their distribution to the places that need them.

Ensuring that medicines arrive on time and are used efficiently is essential to avoid waste and ensure that people benefit. Sister Victorine Bofili stressed the importance of close collaboration with partners to improve this process and ensure that medicines reach those who need them when necessary.

This situation highlights the need for more effective management of the essential medicines supply chain, to avoid wasting valuable resources and ensure access to healthcare for all.
