Title: Deadly clashes between the army and Mai-Mai militiamen in Mutchatcha, Ituri
In a new episode of violence in Ituri, violent clashes broke out last Saturday between the Congolese army and Mai-Mai militiamen in Mutchatcha, leading to the death of seven militiamen and injuring three soldiers. The confrontation took place in the territory of Mambasa, while the militiamen targeted a mining area operated by Chinese nationals.
Parallel to these events, other clashes took place nearby, where the army managed to repel militiamen who had invaded the village of Pangoyi. The presence of these rebels was also reported in the Bakayiko groupement, where they are said to have established several bases with a view to attacking the civilian population.
Colonel Jean Baptiste Matadi, administrator of the Mambasa territory, stressed that army operations continue to neutralize armed groups in the region. He called on the population to support the security forces in order to preserve the ongoing peace process in Ituri.
These clashes demonstrate the persistence of tensions in the region, despite efforts to restore security and stability. It is essential to strengthen cooperation between local authorities, the army and the population to put an end to the activities of armed groups and promote a climate of lasting peace in Ituri.
