In the province of Kwilu, political tensions are being felt within the Sacred Union of Félix Tshisekedi, as the gubernatorial elections approach. Three blocs are emerging, each supporting different candidates and engaging in power struggles.
On the one hand, one camp supports the candidacies of Steve Mabiku Kilumbu and Jacques Madinunga, presented as the Sacred Union ticket. Led by Me Ethis Mbala, this group affirms that these candidates were chosen after consultations and must be supported without fail.
On the other side, another camp supports the candidacy of Philippe Akamituna as governor and contests the legitimacy of the first group, accusing them of usurpation of power. They question the authority of Me Ethis Mbala and refuse to recognize his ability to nominate candidates in the name of the Sacred Union.
Finally, a third bloc, based in Kikwit, supports the candidacy of Rombeau Fumani and opposes the two other currents.
These divisions within the Sacred Union raise questions about the party’s ability to unite behind a single candidate for the upcoming elections. With 16 candidates already submitted and many members running as independents, the party’s internal organization seems to be put to the test.
The political issues in Kwilu province therefore promise to be turbulent, with rival factions competing to secure the support of the Sacred Union and determine who will ultimately represent the party’s interests in the gubernatorial elections.
