“Violence and terror in Mambasa territory: the urgency of restoring peace”

The territory of Mambasa, located in the province of Ituri, was the scene of tragic events during a restless night, marked by a series of attacks. At dawn on Saturday March 23, the population of Mutchatcha suffered violence from Mai-Mai IPLC rebels, who ransacked a gold mining site belonging to Chinese nationals. The attackers not only looted the property on site, but also took away property belonging to the local population. During the clash, a soldier from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo was injured, creating a climate of insecurity and fear among residents, with several of them fleeing to Bandegaido to escape the violence. .

In another village, Samboko, in the Babila Bakwanza chiefdom, rebels from the ADF group carried out an attack during the night, kidnapping several civilians including the local chief and his family. The kidnappers operated deep in the forest, leaving uncertainty over the fate of the hostages. The authorities and security forces remain mobilized in the face of these acts of violence which are sowing chaos and terror among the population.

These tragic events demonstrate the fragility of the security situation in certain regions of the DRC, and highlight the need for concerted and effective action to protect civilians and restore peace. There is an urgent need to strengthen security arrangements and redouble efforts to put an end to the insecurity that prevails in these areas.
