The long-awaited final between the women’s handball Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Palancas Negras of Angola kept all its promises, despite the defeat of the Congolese women who left with the silver medal. Facing the reigning African champions, the Fauves Congolaises showed an admirable game despite the difficulty of the task.
The Palancas Negras, experienced and solid, knew how to make the difference, leaving little chance to their Congolese opponents. The DRC players, aware of the challenges ahead, nevertheless showed determination and combativeness. The preparation ahead of the competition having not been optimal, reaching the final was in itself a great performance for the Leopards.
This silver medal is added to those already won by the DRC in these games, demonstrating the quality and talent of Congolese sportswomen. Hopefully other disciplines such as boxing and 3×3 women’s basketball will also be able to shine and offer new medals to the Congolese delegation.
Beyond the defeat, this final confirmed the dynamism of women’s handball in Africa, highlighting the ever higher level of play of the continent’s teams. The images of this meeting will remain engraved in the memory of handball enthusiasts, testifying to the commitment and perseverance of the athletes involved in this high-level competition.
