Deforestation in Tanganyika: Imminent threat to the local ecosystem

The images of deforestation in the Tanganyika region are striking. Every year, around 2,500 hectares of forest disappear under pressure from human activity. The cutting of firewood and the production of embers contribute largely to this degradation, endangering the ecological balance of the region.

André Masala, head of the provincial environment office, is sounding the alarm and recommending urgent measures to curb this destruction. It suggests the use of improved stoves to reduce dependence on logging, as well as the implementation of large-scale reforestation actions to restore destroyed forests.

Preserving Tanganyika’s forest resources is crucial to maintaining biodiversity and preserving the local environment. Without concerted and rapid action, the province risks losing its natural identity.
