“Strengthening the Amotekun Corps: Security challenges and issues in Nigeria”

Recent news highlights the challenges facing the Amotekun Corps in Nigeria, following the death of the State Commander, David Akinremi. During a plenary session in Abeokuta, Babatunde Tella raised the issue of the ineffectiveness of this security agency. He stressed the urgency of appointing a new State Commander and recruiting competent personnel to strengthen the operations of the corps.

Government members also expressed concern over insufficient funds, which undermines the effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps. To combat kidnapping and armed robbery, it is crucial to equip the agency with modern means of communication, updated weapons and additional vehicles.

MPs stressed the importance of deploying more staff at local level to ensure adequate security in communities. This initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacity of the Amotekun Corps and address insecurity issues in the state.

In short, it is imperative to equip the Amotekun Corps with the necessary resources to fulfill its role effectively. Collaboration between government, security forces and the local population is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
