In a recent case, an individual named Cole was apprehended by authorities near Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja. He was arrested for uttering a death threat against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.
The incident occurred via his Instagram account, 1billionsecretss, in reaction to an article posted by popular blogger Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024. The latter had published an article titled “Religious sect launders money for terrorists. We traced 7 billion fraud to another religious organization – EFCC Chairman.”
In his comment, Cole said the EFCC Chairman would be dead within six months. Despite his claims that he was simply seeking attention, he was taken into custody pending further prosecution.
Furthermore, during a recent dialogue on “Youth, Religion and the Fight against Corruption” held in Abuja, the Chairman of the Commission revealed that the EFCC discovered how a religious sect in Nigeria was laundering money for terrorists, highlighting a worrying problem.
This case once again highlights the importance of fighting corruption and criminal activity, and the need for everyone to be responsible in their words and actions on social media.
