“Goodluck Jonathan Foundation: Electoral Mediation Initiatives in West Africa”

The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation team recently traveled to Dakar for a series of strategic meetings. Led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and including prominent members such as Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, former Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, this delegation aims to contribute to the mediation and resolution of electoral conflicts in the West African region.

The team planned meetings with various key stakeholders, including outgoing President Macky Sall, opposition leaders, civil society representatives, security authorities and the country’s electoral commission. The main objective of the West African Association for Mediation Forum (WAEF) is to play an advisory role to minimize election-related conflicts and foster peace and progress in the sub-region.

The Executive Director of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, Mrs. Ann Iyonu, noted that the WAEF is made up of former presidents and statesmen willing to use their experience and wisdom to promote stability in the region. During their stay in Dakar, forum members will closely observe the electoral processes and continue to engage with political leaders and stakeholders in order to contribute to the peaceful and successful conclusion of the elections.

This initiative demonstrates the continued commitment of former President Goodluck Jonathan and his team to promoting peace and good governance in West Africa, and highlights the importance of diplomacy and mediation in the resolution regional conflicts.
