“Shocking revelation: The underside of the budget of the constituency projects of Nigerian senators finally revealed”

The behind-the-scenes budget of Nigerian senators’ constituency projects has recently come to light, revealing glaring disparities in resource allocation. This revelation, made by Nwoko during a podcast on Saturday, March 16, 2024, supports Senator Ali Ndume’s claims that resources allocated to legislators vary depending on their position and the scale of their constituency projects.

Ndume reacted to allegations by Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe that some senators receive up to N500 million for their constituency projects. Nwoko said senators do not automatically get these resources, but must request them based on their contacts and political clout.

He stressed the importance of a more equitable approach, suggesting uniformity in the allocation of funds for senators. Asked about the amount allocated for his own projects, Nwoko confirmed that he received a sum close to one billion naira, stressing that these resources are for the well-being of his fellow citizens.

These revelations come against a backdrop where the Senate is under scrutiny over budget bloat allegations made by Senator Abdul Ningi. The latter, currently suspended, claims that a significant portion of the N28.7 trillion budget is not earmarked for additional projects.

This situation raises questions about transparency and fairness in the allocation of resources for parliamentarians’ constituency projects. It is essential that public funds are used judiciously and equitably to meet the needs of local communities and promote sustainable development.
