“Chérubin Okende: A Tribute to an Essential Political Figure of the DRC”

In the political landscape of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a significant figure has passed away. The former Minister of Transport and national opposition deputy, Chérubin Okende, will be buried on Wednesday March 20 at Nsele Necropolis No. 1, thus putting an end to a political journey rich in twists and turns.

The funeral program, recently revealed, reveals a day of tribute to the man he was. From 7:30 a.m., a contemplation is planned at the Cinquantenaire hospital, where the body will rest before a mass in the Notre-Dame du Congo cathedral, presided over by Cardinal Ambongo. The wake will be held the day before at the Protestant Centenary of Kinshasa, bringing together a multitude of political and civil society figures for a final farewell to this emblematic character.

Chérubin Okende was found lifeless in his vehicle last July, in tragic circumstances having been concluded as suicide after a thorough investigation.

His death leaves a clear void in the Congolese political landscape, but his legacy and his commitment to progress and democracy will be remembered.

In these times of mourning and commemoration, it is important to remember Chérubin Okende for his dedication and commitment to his country, and to pay a final tribute to a man who marked his era through his vision and his political action.
