“The rise of aviation in Egypt: towards airport modernization and sustained growth”

The aviation sector in Egypt continues to boom with the upcoming announcement of an international call for tenders for the management and operation of Egyptian airports. The Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Abbas Helmy, revealed that this tender will include all airports in the country, including Cairo International Airport.

The ministry’s goal is to increase the number of passengers through Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh airports to 10 million this year. In addition, studies are underway on financing mechanisms for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Cairo Airport.

In recent years, there has been significant growth in the capacity of Egyptian airports, with 63.5 million passengers in 2023. The Ministry of Civil Aviation continues its plan to reach a capacity of 72 million passengers .

Efforts to improve the traveler experience continue with the reorganization of Egyptian airspace to make it more flexible and increase transport capacities. At the same time, procedures to establish private Egyptian airlines are encouraged and facilitated, with 12 Egyptian airlines operating in the country to date.

The minister stressed the importance of updating legislation in line with international standards to ensure high levels of safety and security. EgyptAir, the national airline, also continues its expansion with 79 destinations served and an ambitious target of carrying around 23 million passengers by 2028.

This growth plan will be accompanied by an increase in seat capacity and the extension of the network of destinations, including an increased presence in Africa. In short, Egyptian aviation continues to develop to offer quality services and meet the growing needs of travelers.
