Recent news has highlighted the appointment of Hafsat ABubakar Bakari, a former deputy director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), who now takes the helm of this institution replacing Modibbo Hamman-Tukur. This news was announced in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communications, in Abuja.
Ngelale stressed that Bakari will serve in his position on an interim basis pending confirmation by the Senate. He described the new head of the NFIU as a lawyer and financial intelligence expert, with strong experience in combating money laundering, terrorist financing and counter-proliferation.
The presidential spokesperson also mentioned that Hafsat ABubakar Bakari had held various positions in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including heading the General Services Unit, Strategy and Management Unit. Reorientation, and the EFCC Board Secretariat.
