**Safeguarding Regional Unity: Call to Action from the Founders of ECOWAS**

In an open letter addressed to ECOWAS Heads of State and Member States in Abuja, General Gowon, one of the founding fathers of ECOWAS, appealed for unity and solidarity within the region.

The recent decisions to withdraw from ECOWAS taken by Burkina Faso, Mali and the Republic of Niger, following sanctions imposed by the organization due to military takeovers in these countries, have aroused the concern of General Gowon. He stresses that these decisions threaten the unity of the region and could have significant repercussions on ordinary citizens who have benefited from the benefits of regional integration.

General Gowon calls on ECOWAS authorities to immediately lift all sanctions imposed on Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Niger. He underlines the importance for West African leaders, including those of the countries in question, to unite for peace, stability and prosperity in the sub-region.

As the founder of ECOWAS, General Gowon urges the region’s leaders to rise above their differences and work together to ensure a future of peace and prosperity for West Africa. He recalls that unity and solidarity are essential to face current challenges and build a better future for all.

This call from General Gowon highlights the importance of regional cooperation and solidarity among ECOWAS countries to address common challenges and promote peace and prosperity in the sub-region.
