“Heavy race for power in Haut-Katanga: issues and political battles in 2024”

2024 promises to be a decisive year for politics in Haut-Katanga, with the frantic race of potential candidates for the governorate and vice-governorate of the province. While the closing date for applications has been postponed, a real media war is taking place between the different contenders for these key positions.

On Social Networks, supporters of potential candidates clash violently, multiplying declarations and support from political and socio-cultural structures. Among the main actors in this battle, all from the Sacred Union, we find figures such as Jacques Kyabula Katwe, current provincial deputy and candidate for his own succession, or Jean Claude Kamfwa Kimimba, current vice-governor and member of the UDPS/TSHISEKEDI.

Other names are also circulating in the discussions, such as CHEMBO NKONDE Serge, re-elected national and provincial deputy, or even KAZEMBE SHULA Martin, Mayor of the city of Lubumbashi. Everyone is banking on their political alliances and support to hope to win the highest provincial office.

The Provincial Assembly, currently made up of 44 provincial deputies, will have to decide among these candidates in order to choose the future governor of Haut-Katanga. While awaiting the final verdict, tensions remain palpable and the political issues very present.
