“Fight against food smuggling: Nigerian authorities strengthen national security”

The recent interception of foodstuffs intended for illegal export along the Hadejia-Taura-Ringim axis in Jigawa State has highlighted the authorities’ continued efforts to enforce the border closure policy and ensure security national food.

Officers of the Nigerian Customs Service seized a large consignment of goods, comprising 1,505 cartons of dried fish of various sizes, 17 bags of local variety rice and two bags of beans. This seizure underscores the NCS’s unwavering commitment to combating smuggling, which harms legitimate trade channels, endangers public health and deprives the government of essential revenue.

By emphasizing the crucial role of public collaboration in curbing smuggling, the NCS reaffirms its commitment to protecting local industries and strengthening food security. Efforts are aimed at preventing illicit activities and preserving the national economy.

Zonal coordination and local customs authorities have called on the border community to remain vigilant and respect the border closures in line with ECOWAS directives. These proactive measures aim to resolve the social and economic challenges facing the country.
