The recent call from Bruno Mwitoere, Federal President of the political party Leadership Gouvernance pour le Développement en Province du Nord-Kivu (LGD), to President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, underlines the crucial importance of protecting the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a context marked by the threat weighing on the populations of North Kivu following the Rwandan war of aggression, this appeal highlights the need for the Head of State to keep his commitments to the Congolese people.
By taking the oath, President Tshisekedi pledged to ensure the protection of citizens and the territorial integrity of the country. However, the current situation reveals major challenges, particularly with regard to the supply of local products in Goma. The growing dependence on foreign imports, particularly in terms of food, raises concerns about the economic and security sovereignty of the Congo.
The massive population movements, the precarious conditions in which displaced people live, the lack of access to basic resources such as food, drinking water and health care, highlight the urgency of concrete actions to respond to this humanitarian crisis. Persistent insecurity in Masisi is depriving hundreds of thousands of displaced people of vital humanitarian assistance, exacerbating the suffering of civilians affected by the clashes.
It is now imperative that the Government take effective measures to guarantee the security of the populations of North Kivu, restore local food self-sufficiency and meet the essential needs of displaced people. The protection of territorial integrity and the well-being of citizens must remain at the heart of the actions undertaken by the authorities, in order to face current challenges and ensure a more stable and prosperous future for all.
As committed citizens, it is our duty to support efforts to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of peace, security and development in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
