In the news: Double deadly attack in the Irumu region, in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Terror struck the villages of Banyali-Tchabi and Walese-Vonkutu chiefdoms, in Irumu territory, during a double attack perpetrated by Ugandan terrorists from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). The events of last weekend left a bloody mark, with a provisional toll of 13 victims.
According to testimonies collected on site, the first attack targeted the village of Banzingi, located in the Baleyi groupement, causing the death of three civilians and seriously injuring five other people. In the Bandibongosiya group, six Pygmy women are among the victims of this wave of unbearable violence.
Faced with these barbaric acts, local civil society expresses its indignation and calls on the authorities for a vigorous response against the attackers. These tragedies come on top of other recent ones, such as the attack on the village of Sengi where three women lost their lives, in a region under the control of regular armed forces.
These events of unspeakable cruelty once again underline the urgency of fighting terrorism and protecting civilian populations, innocent victims of this deadly violence. Peace and security remain absolute priorities to guarantee a peaceful future for the Irumu region and the entire country.
At the same time, image research was launched to document this tragedy and raise public awareness of the devastating consequences of these terrorist attacks. Let us remain mobilized and united in condemning all forms of violence and extremism, and continue to work together for a safer and more peaceful world for all.
