In a recent speech to parliament, MP Miriam Ntumba Ntite drew attention to the alarming situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Originally from this country but elected in the Netherlands, she criticized the silence of the international community in the face of the violence raging, particularly in eastern Congo.
The MP underlined the tragic toll of more than ten million Congolese killed since 1997, the result of a war of aggression which continues. Miriam Ntumba Ntite highlighted the devastating humanitarian consequences of this conflict, with millions of internally and externally displaced people. She urged the international community to act proactively to force Rwanda to put an end to its interference in the DRC, also denouncing the economic aims linked to the exploitation of the country’s mineral resources.
She also highlighted the importance of the protest movements that have multiplied in Kinshasa, calling for greater attention and international solidarity to end the humanitarian crisis plaguing the DRC.
