“Democratic Republic of Congo: a decisive turning point for respecting the rules of incompatibility of parliamentary mandates”

In the political news of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a crucial deadline presented itself this Tuesday, February 20: the 8-day deadline allocated to new Deputies in order to comply with the rules of incompatibility of mandates. This measure, stipulated in article 19 of the Internal Regulations of the National Assembly, requires that any Member concerned makes a choice between his parliamentary mandate and any other function deemed incompatible.

In accordance with article 122 of the Internal Regulations, Members of Parliament in a situation of incompatibility must notify their decision to the President of the National Assembly within 8 days following the validation of their powers. In the event of non-compliance with this deadline, the Member is considered to have renounced his parliamentary mandate, thus ensuring compliance with the rules of parliamentary mandates.

This step is of crucial importance in the installation of the new National Assembly, guaranteeing the legality and integrity of parliamentary functions. By allowing Members of Parliament to comply with the rules of incompatibility, this procedure contributes to maintaining transparency and legitimacy within the National Assembly.

This progress demonstrates the commitment to respect the democratic rules and principles, essential to ensure the proper functioning of political institutions in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
