Africa is preparing to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN), initially scheduled for January-February, but which could ultimately take place in summer. Recent speculation suggests that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed in principle for the competition to be held in July-August 2025 in Morocco.

The move aims to avoid any overlap with the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for June 2025. CAF President Patrice Motsepe has not yet revealed the exact dates for this postponed AFCON. However, an official from the committee in charge of competitions suggested that an agreement in principle had been reached between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation for the CAN to take place during the summer, more precisely in July and August 2025.

It should be remembered that this competition is no stranger to postponements, the two previous editions having already been postponed. CAN 2021 finally took place in January-February 2022 in Cameroon, while the most recent edition, unofficially named CAN 2023, began on January 13 in Ivory Coast, before being won by the host country. just a week ago.

Qualifications for CAN 2025 have not yet started. A preliminary round is scheduled for March 18-26, according to the CAF calendar.
