The Union of Cultural Associations for the Development of Ituri (UNADI) expressed its concerns during a press briefing held in Bunia. Indeed, the CENI’s decision to exclude the organization of elections for provincial governors in Ituri and North Kivu sparked reactions from UNADI. Its president, Meta Wani, highlighted the lack of justification for this exclusion, arguing that the general elections of December 2023 took place without a hitch in these regions.
UNADI calls for the organization of elections in Ituri, while asking the President of the Republic to lift the state of siege. Indeed, according to Meta Wani, this exceptional measure is no longer justifiable given the improvement in the current security situation.
This community association insists on the importance of allowing the Iturian populations to choose their representatives with complete confidence. She regrets that the CENI’s decision has caused great frustration among the population.
Faced with this situation, UNADI is calling on the CENI to organize elections for senators and governors in Ituri, in order to allow provincial institutions to work to find solutions to the urgent problems facing the province.
