“Liberation of Sowore and Bakare: A step forward for justice and individual rights”

The recent case concerning the release of Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare by Justice Emeka Nwite caused a lot of noise. After the Federation’s attorney general, A.R. Tahir, withdrew the charges, the judge ordered the Department of Security Services to return three phones and the sum of ₦10,000 that were confiscated from Sowore during his arrest.

Additionally, the judge also asked for the return of Bakare’s phone as well as the sum of ₦1,500 that was confiscated from him. Furthermore, Justice Nwite ordered the return of Sowore’s international passport.

The decisions followed a petition filed by Sowore and Bakare’s lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).

This case attracted public attention and raised questions about the rights and protection of individuals from abuse of power. It is essential to ensure that everyone’s fundamental rights are respected, even in delicate situations.

Justice Nwite’s decision demonstrates the importance of respecting individual freedoms and the rule of law. Hopefully this case will serve as a reminder to ensure that all citizens are treated fairly under the law.
