The rehabilitation and modernization of the Matadi-Kinshasa railway are major projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the latest information shared by the Minister of State, Minister of Portfolio, Adel Kayinda, an investment of around 956 million US dollars will be necessary to carry out this work.
This decision follows the positive analysis carried out by a technical, financial and legal commission set up to study the feasibility of the project. To realize this major renovation of the Congolese railway sector, several conditions must be met, including the creation of a project company in partnership with ONATRA SA and the firm ARISE IIP.
The project also provides for the development of a container storage site and a dock in Kinshasa to facilitate the transfer of goods to the Special Economic Zone. Implementation will be divided into three phases, totaling an overall cost of USD 956 million.
The imminent signing of a partnership agreement between the State and the company Congo Logistic and Transport (CLT SA) as concessionaire will govern the rights and obligations of each of the stakeholders.
This initiative aims to modernize and optimize railway infrastructure in the DRC, in order to promote economic development and facilitate the transport of goods. In addition, it will help to strengthen commercial and logistical links between Matadi and Kinshasa, thus opening new perspectives for the country.
In short, the rehabilitation of the Matadi-Kinshasa railway is a major project which is part of a dynamic of growth and modernization of the transport sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
