In recent news, the President gave directives to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to release 42,000 tonnes of maize, millet and other commodities from the national strategic reserves to counter the rise food prices in the country.
In a bid to ensure that these grains reach targeted Nigerians, Oyintiloye proposed the establishment of a task force to oversee the distribution. According to the former parliamentarian, past experience revealed that free cereals from the federal government did not reach their audiences due to the actions of saboteurs.
He believes it is imperative that the president establishes a special team to ensure effective distribution and neutralize attempts to misappropriate food by private actors.
In addition to the National Emergency Management Agency and Department of State Security Services personnel engaged in distribution, a presidential task force should be deployed to states to ensure effective distribution.
Oyintiloye welcomed the President’s decision to release the grains, but stressed the importance of tackling saboteurs to avoid distortion of the distribution process.
He also appreciated the President’s directive for security agencies to track down people hoarding foodstuffs, stressing that this would help bring down prices and end speculative practices.
In conclusion, the establishment of a presidential task force for the distribution of free food is an essential measure to ensure that these valuable resources reach those who actually need them, while combating harmful practices aimed at exploiting the population.
