The recent raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Abia Internal Security on a property in Umuahia, Nigeria, led to the seizure of large quantities of various illicit drugs, as well as the arrest of several individuals. Among those apprehended are a lawyer, Adaobi Nweke, her boyfriend, her mother and other accomplices involved in drug trafficking.
The investigation revealed that the family had been involved in this illicit trade for a long time, initiated by the deceased father. The substances seized included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis and precursor chemicals, with a total weight of 1,670 kg, as well as a sum of N578,400.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives also stopped a 25-year-old Uber driver from delivering a consignment of 26.2 grams of narcotics. Another individual was arrested in Kano with a large quantity of marijuana, while similar operations took place in other parts of the country, highlighting the persistence of drug trafficking in Nigeria.
These recent activities underline the authorities’ commitment to combating drug trafficking and arresting individuals involved in this illegal trade. It is crucial to continue strengthening law enforcement and awareness-raising operations to protect society and combat the devastating effects of drugs on individuals and communities.
