“Strengthening economic ties between Egypt and Bulgaria: promising opportunities for cooperation”

Recent news highlights opportunities for economic cooperation between Egypt and Bulgaria. During a recent visit to Egypt, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Madbouly stressed the importance of bilateral relations between Egypt and Bulgaria, highlighting the progress made in recent years. He also praised Gabriel’s efforts to promote these relationships.

One of the areas of cooperation mentioned was food security, with the increase of Bulgarian wheat exports to Egypt in exchange for the export of Egyptian vegetables and citrus fruits to Bulgaria. This cooperation in the field of agri-food would further strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

Madbouly also expressed the Egyptian government’s desire to encourage cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries, particularly in the areas of information technology, artificial intelligence and renewable energy. He suggested the creation of a zone dedicated to Bulgarian companies in the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone, where Egypt could become a center for launching Bulgarian companies to the Middle East and Africa.

In return, Bulgaria could become a platform for Egyptian exports to the European Union, as well as a logistics and storage base in southeastern Europe and the Balkans. This collaboration would benefit both countries, given their strategic geographic position.

Regarding renewable energy, Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s progress in the field of green hydrogen and expressed willingness to cooperate with Bulgaria in this area. Additionally, he discussed Egypt’s efforts to establish electricity connections with several European countries.

Gabriel, for his part, stressed that Egypt is a strategic partner for Bulgaria, especially in the field of trade. She also praised Egypt’s efforts to combat illegal immigration and expressed Bulgaria’s openness to cooperation in the field of green hydrogen.

This meeting between representatives of the Egyptian and Bulgarian governments demonstrates the common desire to strengthen economic relations between the two countries. These cooperation opportunities offer promising prospects for mutual development and growth. It remains to closely monitor the next stages of this collaboration and the benefits it will bring to both nations.
