Recent news in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been marked by a series of bombings perpetrated by fighters of the March 23 movement (M23) with the support of Rwanda. The Congolese government strongly condemned these attacks, highlighting the danger for the civilian population.
In an official statement, the government expressed its deep concern about these indiscriminate bombings which took place in Nzulo, in the Lake Kivu region, and at the Mugunga market, in Goma, capital of the North Kivu province. . It should be noted that these attacks are not isolated, they follow a first bombing which occurred on February 2.
Faced with this situation, the Congolese government wanted to salute the bravery of the Congolese army, which is showing determination to ensure the security of local populations. He also expressed his solidarity with the Congolese affected by this escalation of violence.
These terrorist attacks, considered war crimes and serious violations of human rights, will not go unpunished, according to the Congolese authorities. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the Luanda peace processes, which provide for a ceasefire, the withdrawal, disarmament and cantonment of the M23, as well as the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from Congolese territory. This approach aims to restore peace in the region and ensure sub-regional stability.
In this context, it is essential to remind the population to remain calm and continue to support the government’s efforts to bring peace and security to the North Kivu region.
At the same time, the Congolese army announced that it had foiled M23 attacks against its positions in Sake. These clashes demonstrate the need for the Congolese authorities to maintain constant vigilance and strengthen efforts to put an end to this violence.
The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo therefore remains precarious, with clashes endangering the civilian population. The Congolese authorities continue to work to restore stability in this region, building on the ongoing peace processes.
It is essential to closely monitor developments and support efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
