“Tyson Fury injured in training: Undisputed heavyweight fight against Oleksandr Usyk postponed”

Article – Gypsy King Tyson Fury suffers cut during training, undisputed heavyweight fight against Oleksandr Usyk postponed.

The long-awaited meeting between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title has been postponed following a cut suffered by the British boxer during a training session.

The “Ring of Fire” fight between WBC champion Fury and WBO, WBA and IBF titleholders Usyk was originally scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, February 17. However, it was postponed.

According to a statement from Queensberry Promotions, Fury required “urgent medical attention and numerous stitches” after an “accidental cut” appeared above his right eye.

Egis Klimas, Usyk’s manager, said Fury would stop at nothing to avoid facing Usyk.

Klimas then suggested it was “too early to say” whether Usyk would agree to another fight in the meantime or whether he would wait for a new date with Fury.

Queensberry manager Frank Warren said Fury’s cut happened in Riyadh on Friday morning, during a training session with a Croatian heavyweight who hit his eye with his elbow.

It is reported that the boxer in question is left-hander Agron Smakici.

Fury previously suffered a large cut around his right eye following a bloody points victory over Otto Wallin in September 2019.

The winner of a possible re-fight between Fury and Usyk will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first in the four-belt era.

Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the fight will be rescheduled and ticket refunds will be made.
