Title: Properties in violation of compliance notices on Orange Island Road, Lekki, cause concern

Introduction :
The repeated non-compliance of properties along Orange Island Road, Lekki, with compliance notices has sparked concern from the Managing Director of the Lagos Urban Development Planning and Preservation Corporation (LASPPPA) , Kehinde Osinaike. Despite repeated visits to the site and contravention notices issued, some occupants persist in not complying with legal requirements. This article highlights this issue and highlights the importance for owners and developers to comply with current regulations.

Compliance with compliance notices:
Two residences on Orange Island Road, near Freedom Way in Lekki, are particularly affected by this non-compliance. Despite multiple visits to the site and notices of contravention, these entities have not complied with legal requirements. In December 2023, during a visit to the site, the occupants showed aggression towards the LASPPPA surveillance teams, going so far as to unleash their dogs on them. Finally, on January 31, 2024, in collaboration with Eti-Osa North district officials, LASPPPA had to carry out the partial demolition of the illegal structures, after initially being hampered by the dogs.

Reaction from Kehinde Osinaike:
LASPPPA Managing Director Kehinde Osinaike expressed disappointment over the resistance from developers and building owners to government officials. He pointed out that failure to comply with development permits could result in the documents being revoked and the structures being demolished. He also condemned those in Lagos who routinely ignore compliance notices requiring them to stop work or present appropriate permits. He called on all developers, owners and buyers of real estate not to hinder the work of LASPPPA officials.

Conclusion :
The repeated non-compliance of properties located on Orange Island Road, Lekki, with compliance notices is a concerning issue. This demonstrates a lack of compliance with current regulations and highlights the importance of complying with legal standards. The competent authorities, such as LASPPPA, have the responsibility to enforce these rules and take measures to guarantee compliant and safe urban developments. Owners and developers must be aware of their obligations and cooperate with authorities for the welfare of the community at large.
