The election of provincial deputies in the Democratic Republic of Congo has recently been marked by cases of clerical errors in certain electoral constituencies. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) announced these errors in the provinces of Kwilu and Sankuru, more precisely in the constituencies of Kikwit ville, Lubefu and Lodja.
In the electoral constituency of Kikwit town, a clerical error was noted during the proclamation of the provisional results. Kidima Nzumba Ida, candidate of ANB “It’s up to us to build the Congo”, was initially declared elected. However, it turned out that it was Mr. Ibilaba Mpia Joël, also from ANB “It’s up to us to build the Congo”, who should have been declared elected.
In Sankuru province, material errors were also noted in Lubefu and Lodja constituencies. In the Lubefu constituency, Kasongo Mwitshilwa Charles was the victim of an error during the proclamation of provisional results. It has been corrected that Motomoke Yanape Charles was elected to the 2018 AVK list.
Likewise, in the Lodja constituency, Mr. Owomo Ewala Davel was the victim of a clerical error during the proclamation of the results. Base Loma Pierre Omadilo was proclaimed elected on the UDPS Tshisekedi list.
Faced with these material errors, the CENI immediately reacted by taking these cases into account and recommending that the parties concerned turn to the competent courts to try to correct any errors. The CENI also expressed its gratitude to the candidates, political parties and groups for their vigilance and encouraged them to continue to carefully monitor the various documents published.
Importantly, these cases of clerical errors highlight the importance of transparency and accuracy of election results. They also highlight the need for effective mechanisms to correct errors when they occur, to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
In conclusion, the material errors in the electoral constituencies of Kikwit Ville, Lubefu and Lodja during the election of provincial deputies in the DRC were recognized and taken into account by the CENI. It is essential to pursue appropriate legal procedures to rectify these errors and ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
