“SICOMINES contract: An investment of 7 billion dollars for the development of infrastructure in the DRC”

The SICOMINES contract between the GEC (Chinese Enterprise Group) and the Congolese government was recently the subject of a meeting, demonstrating once again the desire of both parties to maintain fruitful cooperation. Under this contract, a massive investment of US$7 billion was agreed for infrastructure development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This sum will mainly be allocated to the construction of roads of national interest.

This decision demonstrates the flexibility and commitment of the Chinese side to meet the needs of the DRC in terms of infrastructure modernization. It is part of the global cooperation and strategic partnership established between China and the DRC, based on mutual trust, pragmatism and fairness.

In addition to this investment, the SICOMINES contract also provides for the payment of royalties to the Congolese party, in the form of a percentage on the annual turnover of SICOMINES S.A. In addition, a hydroelectric power station will be managed jointly by the two parties, with a distribution of shares of 60% for the Chinese part and 40% for the DRC. In addition, 32% of SICOMINES’ annual production will be marketed by GECAMINES.

Some actors, countries and media have criticized this contract, calling it unbalanced. However, the regular reviews and adjustments made demonstrate the effort of both parties to reach an agreement beneficial to all. These improvements aim to promote win-win cooperation and promote the development of Sino-Congolese relations.

This renewed trust between the GEC and the Congolese government, as well as between China and the DRC, paves the way for new developments in cooperation between the two countries. It also arouses the confidence of other African countries in China and Chinese companies.

In conclusion, the SICOMINES contract and its investment of 7 billion US dollars represent a new crucial step in the development of infrastructure in the DRC. They demonstrate the commitment of both parties to pursue fruitful cooperation, in mutual interest and within the framework of a win-win relationship.
