“Repeated doping tests on Victor Osimhen during CAN 2023 raise questions”

CAF’s vigilance in carrying out regular doping tests on Victor Osimhen during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) has raised questions.
Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has found himself repeatedly selected for surprise drug tests by CAF during the ongoing CAN 2023.

According to Pulse Sports, the drug tests carried out on Osimhen came to light following his impressive performance against Cameroon in the round of 16, sparking suspicion among fans.

Osimhen at the CAN

The 25-year-old proved to be one of Nigeria’s most successful players at the tournament in Ivory Coast, helping the Super Eagles secure two consecutive quarter-final berths at the AFCON.

Osimhen was in fine form as Nigeria beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-0 to advance to the quarter-finals. The Napoli player produced a high-level performance by constantly running for 90 minutes, which allowed him to deliver an assist.

Following that performance against the Lions, trusted photojournalist, Pooja Media, revealed via a post on X.com that the Napoli icon was subjected to drug testing during the competition.

“CAF randomly selected Victor Osimhen SEVERAL times after the AFCON matches for drug testing,” Pooja said in her message after the Cameroon match.

More reactions

While these repeated selections could be purely coincidental, Pooja mischievously suggested that CAF should expand its testing to Nigerian youths running in traffic, anticipating a similar outcome.

This humorous reaction underlines the enthusiasm generated by Osimhen, with fans interpreting the tests as a backhanded compliment for his outstanding performances which have contributed to Nigeria’s AFCON campaign so far.

Victor Osimhen has scored a goal and provided an assist in the first four matches of AFCON 2023 and will hope to repeat his performance against Cameroon when the Super Eagles face Angola in the quarter-finals on Friday.
