Iran is taking another step in the field of space exploration by proudly announcing that it has successfully launched three satellites simultaneously into space. A technological feat which testifies to the country’s determination to continue its aerospace activities despite the Western sanctions imposed on it.
The launch of the Mahda, Kayhan 2 and Hatef satellites was carried out with the Simorgh launcher, an achievement of the Iranian Ministry of Defense. These three satellites, placed in orbit at a height of 450 km above the Earth, aim to test satellite subsystems and carry out research and telecommunications missions.
This success comes a week after the launch of the Soraya research satellite, carried by the Ghaem-100 rocket of the Revolutionary Guards. The latter was placed in orbit at a record height of 750 km, marking a significant milestone in Iran’s space exploration capabilities.
Although Iran maintains that its aerospace activities are peaceful and in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions, Western countries have expressed concerns about the potential use of the technology for the development of ballistic missiles. Indeed, satellite launch systems can incorporate technologies similar to those used for missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Despite the economic sanctions imposed by the United States after its withdrawal from the international nuclear agreement in 2018, Iran continues its engagement in the field of space exploration. This success demonstrates the country’s desire to stand out on the international scene and develop its technological skills.
Iran’s achievement in space has drawn mixed reactions from Western countries. While Germany, France and the United Kingdom expressed their disagreement in a joint statement, Tehran responded by accusing these countries of interference.
