“Terror descends in Mweso: 19 dead in a series of terrorist attacks perpetrated by the M23 supported by the Rwandan army”

Attacks by M23 terrorists, supported by the Rwandan army (RDF), continue to sow terror in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This Thursday, January 25, a series of bombs dropped by the attackers caused the death of 19 people in the town of Mweso. The Congolese armed forces (FARDC) established this still provisional assessment and strongly condemned these acts of violence.

According to FARDC spokesperson in North Kivu, Colonel Ndjike Kaiko Guillaume, the attacks began on Wednesday night, when M23-RDF terrorists attempted to attack FARDC positions in Kanyangowe, Mweso Mudugudugu and Mushebere, without success. In response, the FARDC launched a counter-offensive which resulted in the capture of Mweso.

Unfortunately, during their escape, the terrorists indiscriminately dropped 120 mortar bombs into the city, causing the death of 19 people and injuring 27 innocent civilians. The Congolese army describes this act as “terrorist” and emphasizes that it constitutes a serious violation of International Humanitarian Law. She calls on the international community to examine these “blunders” and take the necessary measures.

Clashes between Congolese forces and the attackers continue, with the aim of putting an end to this “human barbarity” inflicted by the terrorists. The FARDC remains determined to protect the population and preserve stability in the North Kivu region.

These tragic events demonstrate the need for international collaboration to combat terrorism and support efforts to restore peace and security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The actions of the M23 terrorists and the Rwandan army must be condemned in the strongest terms, in order to ensure justice and the protection of civilian populations.

It is essential to stay informed about these events and support initiatives to end the violence and secure a peaceful future for the North Kivu region. Peace and security are essential prerequisites for the economic and social development of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the entire Great Lakes region.

In conclusion, the attacks perpetrated by M23 terrorists supported by the Rwandan army in Mweso are a tragic reminder of the fragility of the security situation in North Kivu. It is imperative that the international community supports efforts to restore peace and stability to the region, and to prosecute those responsible for these acts of violence. The protection of civilian populations must be an absolute priority, and it is our duty to inform ourselves, mobilize and support actions taken in this direction.
