“Angola supports the DRC in securing the East: a crucial step towards peace in Central Africa”

Angola supports the DRC in securing its eastern part

In a context marked by persistent tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, the President of Angola, João Lourenço, reaffirmed his support for the DRC for the security of its eastern part. For Angola, the security situation in eastern DRC is considered an “essential component” of its diplomacy.

Angola has been making significant efforts for several months to ease tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali. The country currently holds the temporary presidency of the OACPS, SADC and ICGLR, which requires serious commitment to promote and preserve peace, security and stability in the region.

Despite international pressure and mediation efforts, fighting between the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and the March 23 Movement (M23), supported by Rwandan forces, continues in eastern DRC. Recently, the M23 launched attacks in retaliation for airstrikes by the Congolese army, causing the deaths of several people.

Faced with this situation, Angola continues to advocate for development, peace and national reconciliation in the DRC. The country is also seeking to draw the attention of its international partners to this crucial issue.

It is essential that the international community supports the efforts of Angola and the DRC to resolve the conflicts in the east of the country and to promote stability and sustainable development throughout the region. Securing eastern DRC is a major challenge for peace and security in Central Africa.

Cooperation between the DRC and Angola is of strategic importance for the stability of the region. By joining forces and strengthening their bilateral cooperation, the two countries can help create the conditions necessary to put an end to the violence and to promote the economic and social development of eastern DRC.

In conclusion, Angola’s support for the DRC for the security of its eastern part demonstrates the importance given by Angola to the stabilization and development of the region. It is essential that mediation and cooperation efforts continue in order to achieve a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflicts in eastern DRC. Peace and security in Central Africa depend largely on resolving these tensions and promoting national reconciliation.
