At the economic forum organized by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) in Abuja, the Secretary General of the Nigeria-India Investment Council (NIBC), Rekha Sharma, highlighted the numerous opportunities for cooperation in the health sector between the two countries. This revelation underlines the importance of this sector for the development of bilateral relations and highlights the initiatives put in place to promote partnerships and the exchange of medical expertise.
Develop health infrastructure:
The NIBC focuses on establishing primary healthcare centers, with emphasis on the welfare and health of citizens. Sharma mentioned the establishment of 221 primary health centers in Kaduna, enjoying continuous power supply through solar energy. This initiative aims to improve access to basic healthcare for the local population.
Investments in the health sector:
The NIBC works closely with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group to invest more than $10 billion in projects to promote energy, water, sanitation, information technology, franchise and insurance in the health sector. Plans are underway to inaugurate approximately 25 primary care centers, providing proof of concept for other projects to come.
Opportunities for local industry:
The NIBC also aims to attract manufacturing partners for the production of medical equipment and other hospital services locally. This would contribute to the education and training of the local workforce, providing opportunities in the production of medicines, syringes and other medical devices.
