The installation of new leaders in the provincial institutions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is underway following the publication of the provisional results of the provincial legislative elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission. According to the law in force, the provincial assemblies will have to hold extraordinary sessions from February 5, 2024 for the installation of the provisional Bureau, the validation of powers and the election of the definitive Bureau.
One of the most scrutinized provincial assemblies will be that of Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC. After the problems encountered during the previous legislature, where the leaders of the provincial assembly and the provincial government were criticized, the presidential party expresses its desire to take charge of the city in order to give a new image to the capital.
It should be noted that the Kinshasa provincial assembly has 48 elected officials, of which 44 have already been determined. The other 4 seats will be allocated to traditional chiefs in accordance with the electoral law.
This extraordinary session will therefore be a crucial moment for the DRC, because it will allow new provincial leaders to be put in place, with the hope of improving governance and meeting the expectations of citizens. Public opinion will have its eyes riveted on the profiles of future leaders and hope that they will demonstrate competence, integrity and dedication to the service of the people.
In conclusion, the publication of the provisional results of the provincial legislative elections in the DRC paves the way for the installation of new leaders in provincial institutions. The planned extraordinary sessions will allow the installation of provisional and final offices, thus marking a new stage in provincial governance. The stakes are high to meet citizens’ expectations and rebuild confidence in the political system. Let us hope that this new phase will be an opportunity for renewal and a real commitment to the well-being of the Congolese provinces.
