The team of lawyers from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), presidential party of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is preparing to defend the party’s interests before the Constitutional Court. This team, made up of around twenty renowned lawyers, will represent the UDPS in appeals contesting the provisional results of the national legislative elections.
Among the members of this team of lawyers are well-known figures in the legal and political fields. Me Jacquemain Shabani Lukoo, former co-campaign director of Félix Tshisekedi and advisor to the president on electoral matters, will be one of the main players in the defense of the UDPS. Elvis Mayo, Chief of Staff of the Secretary General of the UDPS-Tshisekedi, as well as Taylor Lubanga, member of the Head of State’s cabinet, will also bring their expertise to the team.
The filing of appeals relating to disputes over the results of the national legislative elections was carried out within the allotted time frame. The Constitutional Court will now have 60 days to examine these disputes and render the final results. This decisive period will extend from January 22 to March 22, 2024, and the final results will be made public on March 23.
The UDPS, which won 69 seats, first place out of the 477 seats filled, is determined to defend its results during this crucial legal process for the country. The selected team of lawyers will do everything possible to ensure the defense of the interests of the ruling party and guarantee the validity of its electoral results.
