Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nassarawa State in Nigeria, has just won an important legal victory. On January 19, 2024, the Supreme Court upheld his re-election despite challenges from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its governance candidate, Emmanuel Ombugadu.
In an interview with the “Politics Today” program broadcast on Channels Television, the governor reacted to this decision by calling on his PDP opponent to be patient.
“I came just to be governor, not to become president, senator or member of the House of Representatives. I have no dreams of these positions. I can tell you categorically that Abdullahi Sule will not run for Senate after his “When I finish my eight years, I can do whatever I want. You can keep this interview and bring it out one day,” he said confidently.
The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal and dismissed the petitions of the PDP and Ombugadu for lack of merit. Governor Sule said he is relieved that these court battles are now over, which will allow him to concentrate on his work and move forward.
In that same interview, he also expressed confidence in the outcome of the case before the Supreme Court. He recalls the divergent judgments rendered by the Court of Justice and the three judges of the Court of Appeal, two of them having voted in his favor. He therefore appeared before the highest court with great confidence in the final victory.
This legal victory strengthens Abdullahi Sule’s position as governor of Nassarawa State and will allow him to continue his work serving his community. His assertion that he has no plans to run for the Senate after his term underscores his commitment to focusing on his current mission rather than pursuing a more ambitious political career.
This decision by the Supreme Court marks an important milestone in the political career of Abdullahi Sule and in the history of Nassarawa State. With the legal challenges having been overcome, it is now time for the governor to look to the future and continue working towards the development and prosperity of the state. His leadership and determination will be essential to achieving these goals.
