Seven-seater mini electric cars: an ecological and economical alternative
In a bid to meet the needs of its population and promote a more sustainable economy, Ikoyi-Obalende Ward Council, Lagos, recently announced an ambitious plan to introduce seven-seater mini electric cars. This initiative aims to mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies and the increase in transport prices.
According to the head of the council, Mr. Atanda-Lawal, this measure will be implemented in two phases by the end of the first quarter of 2024. The mini electric cars, which will be made available to the population, will allow them to benefit from subsidized transport fares and will thus help to reduce costs for residents of the district.
Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council has chosen to align itself with the Federal Government’s commitment to a transition to cleaner and safer energy, with the aim of fostering a more efficient and sustainable economy. To this end, the council plans to provide the community with 10 charging stations to support the beneficiaries of these electric cars in their maintenance.
The council official also emphasizes that transport plays a key role in the economic development of a nation. He explains that mini electric cars will not only help reduce transport costs, but also promote a greener and environmentally friendly alternative.
This initiative to introduce seven-seater mini electric cars is not limited to the economic aspect. Indeed, the Ikoyi-Obalende local council also plans to provide employment opportunities to members of the community by allowing them to acquire these cars through a rent-to-own system.
The objective of this approach is twofold: on the one hand, it will improve the income of beneficiaries and, on the other hand, it will have significant multiplier effects on families, the district and society as a whole.
Meanwhile, Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council will continue to provide food assistance to the elderly and retirees through its food bank programme. This approach aims to ensure that the basic needs of the population are met in the long term, and not just temporarily.
In short, the initiative of the Ikoyi-Obalende district council in favor of seven-seater mini electric cars constitutes a concrete and innovative response to the economic and environmental challenges facing the community. By providing an affordable, environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation solution, this measure has the potential to transform travel patterns in the region and help build a more prosperous future for all.
