Hello everyone !
Today, we are going to address major news concerning the withdrawal of MONUSCO in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During a joint press conference, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula, announced that the process of withdrawing from MONUSCO had already started. This operation will take place in several phases, with a first stage planned from January to April, consisting of the complete withdrawal of military and police components from the province of South Kivu.
A political and strategic assessment will then be carried out in April to decide on the continuation of the withdrawal, particularly in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri. The objective is that by the end of the year, MONUSCO will have completed its withdrawal satisfactorily, thus marking an important step towards the sovereignty and lasting stability of the DRC.
It should be noted that this withdrawal of MONUSCO was requested on several occasions by the Congolese population, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the alleged ineffectiveness of the UN troops. Demonstrations even took place in the provinces of North Kivu to demand this withdrawal. However, it is important to emphasize that this withdrawal does not mean a total disengagement of the United Nations for peace in the DRC. On the contrary, it is a transition of support responsibilities towards Congolese national institutions.
This process of withdrawal of MONUSCO in the DRC gives rise to numerous reactions and questions. Some welcome this step towards Congolese sovereignty, while others are concerned about the consequences this could have on the stability of the country. The coming months will be decisive in observing the evolution of this situation and assessing the impact of this withdrawal on the DRC.
In conclusion, the withdrawal of MONUSCO in the DRC is underway, marking a crucial step towards the sovereignty and lasting stability of the country. Despite the challenges this may present, this is an opportunity for national institutions to take full responsibility for security and conflict resolution in the country. Let us remain attentive to the evolution of this situation in the coming months.
