Ranking of African military powers in 2024
Each year, Global Fire Power publishes a ranking of military powers in the world, taking into account several criteria such as the number of active military personnel, naval force, budget devoted to defense, etc. In the context of this article, we are more specifically interested in African military powers and their positioning in this ranking for the year 2024.
Egypt ranks first among African military powers, ranking 15th in the world. Algeria follows closely, positioning itself in 26th place in the world. South Africa ranks 33rd, ahead of Nigeria in 39th place. Ethiopia and Angola occupy 49th and 55th places respectively, while Morocco is positioned in 61st position.
As for the Democratic Republic of Congo, it maintains its place as the 8th military power in Africa, but falls one place globally, going from 72nd to 73rd position. Despite this, it should be noted that the Global Fire Power ranking does not take into account certain factors such as nuclear stocks, and does not penalize countries that do not have a coastline due to lack of a naval force.
Interestingly, the United States remains the world’s leading military power in 2024, followed by Russia, China, India and South Korea.
This ranking highlights the disparities in military power in Africa, with countries such as Egypt and Algeria ranking among the most powerful, while other countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo find themselves lower in classification.
It is also worth emphasizing that military power is not just limited to numbers and resources, but also encompasses other aspects such as the ability to maintain peace and protect national interests.
In conclusion, the ranking of African military powers in 2024 highlights the differences in strength and resources between the countries of the continent. This is an important indicator for assessing the defense and security capabilities of African nations, but we must not forget that military power is not everything and that it is essential to promote stability and peace to ensure the harmonious development of the region.
