“Sudan: Negotiations to end the conflict between General al-Burhan and Hemedti face strict conditions”

The war in Sudan and the conflict between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sudanese army, and Mohamed Hamdan Dogolo, also known as “Hemedti”, commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), continues have ravaged the country since April 15, 2023. In a statement issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General al-Burhan set his conditions for engaging in dialogue with Hemedti.

According to the press release, General al-Burhan insists on respecting the Jeddah declaration, signed on May 11, 2023. He demands in particular that the militiamen evacuate homes used as military bases, as well as occupied towns and villages. This request underlines the importance of a return to stability and security to resume discussions.

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also specifies that the withdrawal of the RSF from the state of al-Jazeera, in the southeast of the country, would be a sign of goodwill on the part of the paramilitaries and would demonstrate their seriousness in their intentions to dialogue.

On the other hand, the press release rejects outright the Addis Ababa declaration, recently signed by Hemedti and the coalition of Taqadum civil forces. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this agreement, signed only by Hemedti’s supporters, would pave the way for the partition of Sudan, which is unacceptable to the Sudanese authorities.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its indignation at the honors accorded to Hemedti during his meetings with the presidents of Kenya, South Africa and Rwanda last week. This situation has already led the authorities to recall their ambassador to Nairobi in protest.

It is obvious that the situation in Sudan remains precarious and complex. The two factions, represented by General al-Burhan and Hemedti, appear to be engaged in a tug of war for power and legitimacy. The conditions set by General al-Burhan highlight his concerns about the security of citizens and the need to establish an environment conducive to dialogue.

It is essential to emphasize that the stability of Sudan is essential for the country and for the region as a whole. It is therefore imperative that all parties concerned engage in constructive and honest dialogue in order to find a peaceful and lasting solution to this conflict. This will undoubtedly require compromise and concessions from both sides, but it is essential to end the suffering of the Sudanese people and allow the country to rebuild.

In conclusion, it is crucial that the international community continues to support mediation and dialogue efforts in Sudan. Only a peaceful resolution of this conflict will allow the country to regain stability and continue its socio-economic development.. The road to peace will be long and difficult, but perseverance is essential for the well-being of the Sudanese people.
