Introduction :
As part of preparations for the pilgrimage season, the Federal Government of Nigeria recently approved three airlines for the transportation of Nigerian pilgrims. These are Air Peace Ltd., FlyNas and Max Air. The move aims to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for the many Nigerian pilgrims who travel to Saudi Arabia each year. This announcement was made by Ms. Fatima Sanda-Usara, Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the National Pilgrims Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Airline breakdown:
According to Ms. Sanda-Usara, the distribution of airlines was made according to the states of origin of the pilgrims. Thus, Air Peace Ltd. will be responsible for the transportation of pilgrims from Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kwara, Ondo, Rivers states as well as the federal capital, Abuja. For its part, FlyNas will transport pilgrims from Borno, Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe and Zamfara states. Finally, Max Air will have the largest share of the allocation and will be responsible for transporting pilgrims from Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Oyo, Taraba, Kaduna, Armed Forces, Gombe, Jigawa States and Plateau.

Transportation of excess baggage:
Apart from transporting pilgrims, the government has also approved three air cargo transport companies to transport excess baggage of pilgrims. These are Cargo Zeal Technologies Ltd., Nahco Aviance and Qualla Investment Ltd. States have the option of choosing from these airlines to transport excess baggage for their pilgrims.

This decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria demonstrates its commitment to ensuring a hassle-free and secure pilgrimage experience for Nigeria’s many pilgrims.
